My Story

Sunday, 23 April 2023.

I’m running the 2023 London Marathon, raising funds for Dementia UK.

This is my 3rd London Marathon and 5th marathon raising funds for charity.

Your support would be hugely appreciated, also your encouragement, by spreading the word, or through a donation if you’re in a position to do so.

Please help however you can, dementia impacts hundreds of thousands of families in the UK alone, and spreading awareness and raising funds will make a meaningful difference.

Many of you may be aware as supporters or previous sponsors that as recently as October, I ran the 2022 London Marathon raising funds for a local memory café in Wythall, Worcestershire that offers community support to those suffering from dementia, memory loss and sometimes just loneliness. The memory café is run by volunteers and provides respite, entertainment and company for local residents on a weekly basis.

In 2023 I am delighted to be able to run to raise funds on a national level  supporting Dementia UK.

Dementia UK, provide funding, support and develop specialist dementia nurses called Admiral Nurses.

The Nurses provide life-changing support for families affected by all forms of dementia – including Alzheimer’s disease.  They have the knowledge to help families manage complex needs, taking the person living with dementia and the people around them into consideration.

The nurses clearly add huge value to community involvement such as that seen with my local memory café.

Admiral Nurses can help people living with dementia to stay independent for longer, as well as providing support to the people caring for them.  I’m sure you’ll agree that this is a cause we need to get behind, to maximise the impact that Dementia UK can continue to make, and to further raise awareness, understanding, and action.

Accordingly I would please ask you to help me, to help Dementia UK by sponsoring me in the London 2023 Marathon.

Families throughout the UK have been touched by dementia and are more than aware of the devastating effect it can have on individuals and families, the work Dementia UK do, offers support to all those affected.

I apologise for again reaching out for sponsorship and understand some of you who have read my appeal may not have seen previous local needs as relevant to them but this time I’m trying to help nationally and therefore would really appreciate your help.

Thanks for your support.
