About us

Freightliners Islington's City Farm

Freightliners City Farm is a small urban green space in the heart of the London Borough of Islington.  It is a place where inner city people can spend time outdoors, make connections with animals, plants, nature and their local community.  The farm provides educational opportunities, theraputic activity and a tranquil space for leisure and recreation.

A key focus of the farm's work is supporting people to access experiences, and opportunities for learning, health and wellbeing which they would not otherwise have.

'The farm is my safe space where I feel better' Volunteer

Each year the farm provides

    • Guided and self-guided learning activities for visiting families, schools and community groups. 2500 school children take part in class visits.
    • Volunteering, therapeutic farming and gardening and community participation activities for a wide variety of people with a particular focus on supporting people with learning disabilities, people with mental health problems and young people. 50 people of all different backgrounds, ages and abilities take part in weekly farming and gardening activities which help to run the farm for the community
    • Training and work experience in animal care, gardening, environmental management and community work for young people and adults. 20 young people with learning disabilities complete hands on learning courses on the farm and gain skills, knowledge and qualifications in associated subject areas.
    • An attractive, interesting and active green space for local people to spend time in for leisure and wellbeing. An estimated 40,000 visits are enjoyed by people from across our community.

'The farm made me who I am today, it gave me a space away from negative influences' Young Farmer

Help to keep the farm open to everyone for free

The farm relies on donations and support from our community to feed and care for the animals and gardens, maintain the space, support volunteers and participants and provide an open access and free at point of entry resource.

Each year we are amazed at the generosity of our local and wider community and grateful for their continuing support which is much needed in these challenging times.  Following the pandemic and with the cost of living increases the farm, like many small charities and organisations is struggling to meet rising costs and increasing need.  If you are able to help out please donate and support our fab fundraisers as they go to extreme efforts to raise essential funds to continue the farm's work.
