2023 London Marathon Run in Memory of Len Harber
Alan Harber running the 2023 London Marathon in memory of Len Harber (dad)
My Story
On April 23rd 2023 I will run the London Marathon in memory of my inspirational dad Len Harber who passed away in May 2019. I will be running to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Support charity who provided my dad end of life care during his battle with Cancer.
In 2018 my families world was blown apart by the news that dad had terminal stomach cancer. There was nothing that could be done as it was caught too late. Dad kept enjoying his life to its fullest for another 6 months before he finally lost his battle.
My dad was a sportman his whole life enjoying rugby, basketball and athletics mostly. He also ran a marathon himself! He is who gave me my love of running from an early age when we would run together to the end of the main high street and back! I made a promise to my dad before he passed that I would run the London Marathon in his memory and I got to do that in 2020 (well sort of!)
I trained for the 2020 London Marathon which was sadly postponed due to COVID, but having done most of the training at that point I ran a virtual marathon anyway in his memory to make good on my promise.
Now I have finally been able to reschedule my official run of the London Marathon to April 2023 and I get to experience the real thing with the crowds and support of my family. I cant wait to honour my dad and raise lots of money in the process for an amazing cause. I know times are tough but please spare some amount of cash to donate to an amazingly worthy charity. What they do for those at the end of their life due to cancer is incredible.
Thank you for your support :)
