My Story

The Mullaly family has been associated with the Gurkhas for many years:

- Our great great grandfather, Major-General Sir Herbert Mullaly KCMG, CB, CSI (1860-1932) had four sons, all of whom served as Gurkha officers; three of them, when still young men, died during WW1. The one surviving son, Brian Reginald Mullaly (1892-1965) rose to the rank of Colonel in the 10th Gurkha rifles. In retirement he wrote the story of the 10th Princess Mary’s Own Gurkha Rifles Gurkha entitled “Bugle and Kukri”.

- Our own grandfather, Herbert Stephen Mullaly, fought as a Gurkha officer (Colonel) in Burma, followed by leading part of the post-war Gurkha presence in Vietnam prior to the hand-back to the French. He then left the Gurkhas to begin a successful career in British Petroleum; for the rest of his life he supported the Gurkha Welfare Trust.

As an acknowledgement of the association that the Mullaly family has with the Gurkhas, we now wish to do our part.

It would be excellent if you, in turn, could help us in our marathon endeavours to raise funds for the Gurkha Welfare Trust by donating on this page.

(PS As you may know, we were both brought up in France; if you are donating as a French tax resident, the GWT has set in motion the procedure for you to obtain a 66% deduction on your French tax return. Please contact [email protected] who will take you through the procedure which is different from the JustGiving process)
