My Story

I remember it well… it was September 1st 2021… our world changed.

We discovered that our 4 year old daughter Lily had coeliac disease. We had never heard of it… and now we were confronted with this terrible news. Someone who has coeliac disease can’t eat any gluten (to be found in products like bread, pasta and cookies). We had to change so much, how we cooked, what we eat and learn what she can and cannot eat. Even a crumb can cause terrible stomach ache and does damage to the intestines, so we have to be constantly weary of what Lily eats.

As I was born in England but now live in Holland, we got great help from the Dutch Coeliac Society and their dieticians. Now Lily is doing so well. She has grown incredibly in her first gluten free year and has no more stomach aches. Fortunately, there is a lot of information about coeliac disease, but unfortunately, there is no cure (yet).

To be able to help everyone who has coeliac disease, (more) research is needed. This is why I am raising funds for Coeliac UK!

Ever since I was a boy watching the London Marathon on tv, it has been on my bucket list. In 2021 I ran my first Marathon in Amsterdam (42.2 km), after a year of training. Now, I am incredibly grateful for the chance to run the London Marathon on April 23rd, whilst raising money for Coeliac UK.
