My Story
Running has played a huge part in my battles with mental health and my ongoing recovery from an addiction to alcohol. Now I want to channel my gratitude for this gift of recovery to help support others and I am delighted to be representing and raising much needed funds for Blind Veterans UK.
Five years ago I hit rock bottom and it was the love of my family, Fellowships and "getting out there for a run" that helped me recover to enjoy a productive life. I now use my running to help visually impaired students from a local college by running as their guide and have recently started guide running a blind runner train for marathons. I can see how this freedom can massively improve wellbeing. Running the London Marathon for UK Blind Veterans seems the next logical step of my journey of recovery.
Blind Veterans UK is a fantastic charity which provides support to those who have dedicated their lives to their country, helping them to live independant lives and to continue to enjoy the hobbies and interests they had before sight loss, or to discover new interests.
