My Story

Thank you for visiting my personal fundraising page! I am so excited to be running the London marathon to support a great cause and would like to share with you why I am taking on this challenge again!

For those of you that know me, already know that running has been a passion of mine for the last 12 years; and over time, I have challenged myself to run longer distances and push my limits. Now, I have decided to take on the London marathon for a third time!

But I am not doing it just for myself - I am doing it to raise money and awareness for Lupus UK, a charity that is dedicated to supporting people living with lupus and assisting those approaching diagnosis.

Lupus is an chronic autoimmune disease where the immune system is dysfunctional and mistakenly identifies the body’s own tissues as foreign invaders. About 90% of Lupus diagnoses are in women ages 15 to 44.

This cause is important to me because my partner's Mum, Nicki, suffered with Lupus for many years. I am running the London marathon in memory of her and to raise funds for a charity that meant so much to her.

In her thirties, Nicki was diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) after years of misdiagnosis. An average time from first symptoms to diagnosis is currently about 6 years. At that time very little was known about Lupus, and even today it remains a complex and poorly understood condition.

Nicki suffered from extreme fatigue, arthritis, exacerbated migraines, permanent skin damage, and living with the fear and worry of not knowing how much worse the disease would become. She learned to live with and manage the condition, and tried not to let it slow her down. Being a horticulturist meant that she was often out working in the elements! She also dedicated a huge amount of time fundraising for Lupus UK, including walking the entire length of the Offa’s Dyke.

She passed away in her early sixties from complications after being hospitalised with severe pancreatitis.

By donating you can help me continue Nicki’s fundraising efforts and help me reach my goal to make a difference to those living with the condition. Every little bit counts and your donation, no matter how small, will make a difference.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and consider donating. Your support means the world to me and to those who will benefit from the work of Lupus UK.
