My Story

To be perfectly honest I didn't know very much about Deafblind UK before I started down this road. I wanted to run the London Marathon and at the same time raise some money for charity.

Normally I've raised/given money to Cancer & Kids charities but have recently discovered how many lesser known charities depend upon donations and have a tougher time than some of the better known organisations.

Deafblindness is sight and hearing loss that impacts your communication, mobility and ability to access information. It affects different people in different ways.

Deafblind UK helps people who are deafblind to live with their condition and to build their confidence and independence. They offer comfort, understanding and advice as well as practical support, residential support, care and social opportunities.

The combination of a hearing and sight loss creates a unique set of wider needs that, without the right support, can leave deafblind people vulnerable, marginalised and isolated.  Combined sight and hearing loss affect a person’s ability to access mainstream information and services, engage socially, undertake daily tasks and get out and about. If the appropriate care and support is not provided, the inability to perform these activities can lead to diminished independence and confidence which often leads to isolation, anxiety and depression.

So I'd really appreciate any donation that you can make to help ensure that the outstanding support provided by DeafBlind UK is in place for all that need it.
