Calum Running for L'Arche Manchester
Calum Martin
My Story
Helloo :) My name's Calum.
I'll be running this year's London Marathon on behalf of L'Arche Manchester, where I've spent the past year as a support assistant.
L'Arche is an amazing charity that provides support for adults with learning disabilities. Its communities are rooted in the activities of daily life: preparing a meal, going for a walk, making handicrafts, celebrating a birthday or anniversary.
From my first week it was clear how much of an impact L'Arche has for the people it supports. The approach to care is person-centred and people's interests and capabilities are always being explored.
L'Arche communities challenge the perception that people with learning disabilities are unable to make positive contributions to the world around them. Not only is this perception false, it is a key contributor to the statistics that only around 6% of adults with learning disabilities are in paid work and that they are 7 times more likely to experience chronic loneliness.
By making a donation you will be helping me show my appreciation to the amazing people I've met, and more importantly help L'Arche to continue supporting its Core Members in the wonderful ways they do.
Thank you!
