My Story

Hello from Puerto Rico, my name is Carlos F. Cancio, I'm a married father of two young daughters with an educational background in Law and a career in Law enforcement.  I started running seriously at age 42, when my youngest daughter was born, my blood pressure was not stable, I was overweight and therefore figured that I had to take better care of myself.  So far I have finished 5 full marathons and plenty of half marathons and shorter runs.  I'm in the quest of completing all marathon majors and improving upon my personal best of 3 hours and 22 minutes.  Currently I'm training with a diverse group of friends of different ages and backgrounds.  Running has taught me many things, such as the importance of dedicating time to one self, respecting others and realizing that working together towards a common goal will help us achieve success, no matter our race, gender, socioeconomic background or age. ACTSA caught my attention as a charity, the work being done is outstanding, there is a long road ahead towards ensuring race equality and erasing discrimination.  I look forward to meeting other Team members and sharing our success!
