My Story

In 2018 I made a deciosn that would change my life forever!!

I joined a slimming club! (Some of you may remember this)

Having lost both my parents by the time I was 41, I was determined not to let the same thing happen to my children. So with a great deal of horror and a few tears, I braved the scales in front strangers that I've never met before, watching me, judging me.......10st stone overweight!!

It turns out no one was watching ot judging me, infact the lady next to me saw my upset, sat down next to me and said "thats the last time that you'll see that number on the scales", and she so soooo right!!

July 2018 Christine and I were sat at TJ's sports day, watching our kids run, when I told her I'd joined SW and commented that it probably won't make any difference but I'll give it a try......

Week by week, I worked hard to stick to the plan and stay focused. Once I'd managed to lose a few lbs, I started to feel a difference, not only physically but also mentally, I wanted to challenge myself further (like 10st wasn't enough).

So I decided to try and walk a park run (a 5k locally organised event). I'd watched Christine run it every week, sometimes with my youngest son because I was too overweight and unfit to do it with him............so I went to another town where no one knew me! But once I started, I relaised everyone was really supportive and friendly, encourgaing me on.

This was the start of things to come........

5K turned into 10k and in December 2019 I ran my first 10K. I thought I was going to die!!! It was soo far and at -4 outside it was freezing, I hated every step. But it was also the most amazing feeling of accomplishment.

Fast forward 2 years, I'd managed to lose almost all of that extra 10st I was carrying and during covid, I ran my first half marathon (13.1 miles / 21.1 kms) on top of  the10K 2 or 3 times a week I was running, dragging Christine along with me on these little 'jollies'........... She loved the 6am starts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But now, I've talked her into joinging me on my most challenging challenge yet.........
