Clare is running London Marathon!

My Story
On Sunday 23 April, I will be running the London Marathon in aid of Mental Health Research UK.
Why am I doing this?
Mental health and well-being have always been important to me, and to Capital; they are central to our recently launched Academy. We have mental health first aiders, and regularly organise events to encourage open discussion and mindfulness. We believe that mental health research has never been more important, and that’s why we’re delighted to be supporting Mental Health Research UK ("MHRUK"). I tell you more about MHRUK below.
I, personally, have first-hand and second-hand experience of the impact poor mental health can have on people. I suffered from an eating disorder as a teenager and exercise was one of the things that helped me come through it. But many are not so lucky. We desperately need more research (and therefore funding) into its prevention and treatment.
MHRUK’s mission is to fund research that gives hope and improves lives, providing a better future for everyone affected by mental health problems. Both Capital and I are greatly honoured to have been chosen support such an amazing charity.
Why Mental Health Research UK?
Mental Health Research UK was founded in 2008, the first charity devoted to funding much-needed research into mental ill-health. So far Mental Health Research UK has funded over thirty PhD Scholarships costing over £2.5m. The charity is entirely volunteer run, so that more than 95% of all funds received is spent on the research.
We badly need more mental health research to better understand causes and to develop better treatments and approaches to prevention. These have lagged behind other areas of health because mental health conditions are highly complex, and because research has not been adequately funded.
