My Story
Hello friends, in a month’s time, I will be running the London Marathon, my first marathon, in aid of the Terrence Higgins Trust, the UK’s leading sexual health clinic.
The charity is named after Terrence Higgins, a British man who died in 1982 and was the first known person in the UK to die from AIDS related illness.
Running a marathon is something I never saw myself doing but I decided to take on this challenge as a way of giving back to the community that during my childhood in the 1980s faced prejudice and stigma causing them to feel isolated and alone.
I want to honour and respect the people who have been affected by HIV and AIDS and would graciously appreciate it if you would sponsor me in my endeavor.
Your generous donation will allow the Terrence Higgins Trust to:
- Provide STI and HIV testing
- Provide free condom access
- Offer therapy and counselling services to people living with HIV
- Assist people living with HIV to access the benefits they are entitled to
- Staff a Mon-Sun direct helpline - THT Direct
- Offer emotional and financial crisis support
- Provide Sexual Health Training for volunteers/businesses/schools
- Campaign on many vital issues, including health equality, inclusive RSE (relationship & sex education), the 'Can't Pass it On' campaign tackling HIV stigma, and the funding of health services
- Work towards their goal of ending HIV transmission in the UK by 2030
Thank you x
