My Story

I am running the 2023 London Marathon in memory of my friend and coworker Sara Robinson McClincey. Sara and I quickly bonded over our love of running and our love of traveling. We ran many races together, both locally and in the surrounding states. We always talked about how amazing it would be to run the London Marathon, and each year we entered the lottery, always unsuccessfully. Sara did have the opportunity to run the Royal Parks half marathon in London in 2015 though! (I was definitely jealous). Unfortunately Sara was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in 2017, and she fought fiercely until March 19, 2020 when she earned her angel wings.

I now have the amazing opportunity to run the London Marathon while raising money for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer foundation. This foundation funds lung cancer research in the UK focusing on both early detection of lung cancer and on improving the patient experience, and all donations directly fo towards helping everyone affected by lung cancer. I can’t think of a more meaningful charity to fundraise and run for! London will be my fourth star in my pursuit of the six-star World Major Marathon medal. Please consider donating to support this great cause and to honor Sara’s memory. I know she will be running along side of me for the entire race, as I run past the Cutty Sark, the Tower of London, across Tower Bridge and in front of Buckingham Palace to finish.

My race will be dedicated to Sara. But 26.2 miles is a lot of individual miles to run, and that allows for a lot of time of thinking and reflection. Anyone who makes a donation can also request a mile to be dedicated to someone (or someones) in your life whom you may have lost to cancer or who is currently fighting cancer. Just post their name in the comment section with your donation.  Before the race I will send an update with a list of my individual mile dedications. Thank you for your support!!

XOXO, Danielle
