My Story

Back in 2019, I decided it was time to try and get fit. Around this time, I was following one of my friends on social media and her journey to run the London Marathon. Inspired by this hard work and fund raising, I decided I too needed to do my part for a good cause.

I was offered a charity position to run the Nottingham Half Marathon which sounded impossible - running doesn’t come naturally to me and so my journey began in an effort to get fit enough to participate (and actually reach the finish line!)

Over half a year, I managed to work up to running a half marathon and completed it but, in the process, realised running is not easy as it looks. Thinking 13.1 mile or 21km didn’t sound too bad I signed myself up for the London Marathon with the view double the distance isn’t much of a jump either but never expected to get a place to participate.  To my surprise, I was offered a place to run in 2020.

Due to covid, the London Marathon was postponed and during 2021 I picked up an injury which stopped me from doing any exercise. I did think I’d never run the Marathon but in early 2022, I kept getting emails to remind me to train for a marathon which i never planned for.

Therefore, last year working around an injury, covid 2 weeks before the event and many other issues I did take part in the London Marathon and shocked myself by finishing.

I started my training to finish in a set time, then closer to the event simply hoped to finish. On completing I only wished I could have competed in a better time and with a few adjustments to my run am sure I could improve.

Satisfied but unsatisfied, I did think this was where my running journey would come to an end but instead of running being something stopped and started from year to year, the night before I ran the London Marathon, I applied to be in the ballot for 2023. After completing in 2022, I had said to myself I’ll never run the route again but when the ballot was announced, I was slightly disappointed to not get a place.

Fortunately, I have been offered a place with the NFDC - National Federation of Demolition Contractors. The NFDC are proud to support a number of local and national charities through fund raising with the members and raising money for a great causes.

I'm running the 2023 TCS London Marathon in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Right now, one in four people living with cancer in the UK feel that they just ‘can’t afford life’. Anything you give will help fund Macmillan's vital services that could provide someone with cancer a grant to help with the extra costs associated with cancer, fund a Macmillan Nurse or the Macmillan Support Line. Because cancer can affect a life in so many ways, Macmillan will do whatever it takes to give people the support they need.
