My Story
In 2022 I was lucky enough to run the London Marathon for Maggie's and I had such a fantastic time that I thought.... LETS DO IT AGAIN!
“When you walk through the door at Maggie’s, it literally feels like a huge hug”.
I am fundraising for Maggie's in Cheltenham, because they provide incredible, free of charge support to people living with cancer, their family and friends.
Maggie's is a place to find advice; share experiences with others in a similar situation around the kitchen table; or just sit quietly with a cup of tea. For some people talking about their cancer is invaluable and can provide the support they need outside of a clinical setting. For others the peer support they gain from other people in similar situations is extremely important. And for some people, going to the hospital can be difficult and tiring so having somewhere comfortable to sit quietly and reflect can be really valuable to help them process what they have heard.
Maggie's provides a space for all of this to happen.
I am lucky enough to be the Centre Fundraiser at Maggie's in Cheltenham and get to see, on a day-to-day basis, the amazing work that the team do. Seeing the way that they support people, has made me want to do even more than my job (where I already raise lots of money!) and raise money for the centre, in my own time, so that our programme can continue running and in future expand.
“Cancer is life defining, isn’t it? It changed my life completely. But I was just able to take control back, manage to worry less, and start to live for the day. Going to places like Maggie’s puts you in the moment. And that’s how you’ve got to live – in the moment.” Centre Visitor, 2022
Donations are important but so is spreading awareness of the work that Maggie's does, so if you are unable to donate, please keep Maggie's in mind for anyone that may need our services - and if you are able to, please donate what you can so that Maggie's can continue doing what they do!
