Emma Blackburn - London Marathon 2023
My Story
So here we go again… I am about to embark on my 3rd marathon, though 7 years older (and a bit heavier) than for my last one.
I am running this time in aid of Pancreatic Cancer Action. We lost my lovely Mam to this awful disease in December 2021, 10 months after diagnosis, until then to us she was a vibrant, full of life 68 year old. I also know of friends and fellow PCA runners who have lost loved ones at a much younger age.
This cancer impacts people old and young and has such low survival rates due late diagnosis. Public awareness of pancreatic cancer and its symptoms is very low with many patients having not heard of the disease before their own diagnosis.
The aim of PCA is to improve the survival rates of pancreatic cancer by ensuring more people are diagnosed early and in time for surgery – currently the only potential cure.
