My Story

My name is Gavin and I ran the London marathon 10 years ago. Its was an amazing, exhilarating experience and each year since I have applied for a ballot place and each year unsuccessful until this one!

I have decided to try and raise and extra bit of cash for a charity that people tend not to know about but is very close to my heart. I will be running (and hopefully finishing) the London Marathon for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. https://www.hearingdogs.org.uk/

Within our family, we have Grace, she is a Labrador-cross and is my uncles hearing dog and a huge part of the family. As a family we have first-hand experience in how Grace and other Hearing dogs provide emotional and physical support as well as love and companionship.

Please take some time to read about how Hearing Dogs can actually change and transform a person’s life. https://www.hearingdogs.org.uk/helping-deaf-people/stories/

I don’t have a goal in mind for the marathon day, I’m happy to just finish and focus on enjoying the day, training has involved running two or three times a week as well as some gym sessions. I recently completed my longest run, 32k and I’m now looking forward to the big day.

How your donations will help.. £10 buys a selection of dog toys and treats, £30 a hearing dog uniform, bringing visibility to an otherwise invisible disability. £80 buys a puppy starter pack: bed, crate, toys, collar, lead and training aids, £250 a dog grooming kit including: brushes, clippers and scissors to keep them looking smart and £350 will buy food for a hearing dog for a year, keeping it strong and healthy for its important work.

The cost to train and support each hearing dog throughout their lifetime is £40,000 which is a huge amount of money so Hearing Dogs rely heavily on every penny to help change lives.

Thank you so much for you donation.
