My Story
I'm Grace and I am running the 2023 London Marathon in memory of my beautiful Auntie Christine who passed away following her fight with breast cancer in 2006. She was incredibly smart, generous, caring, an amazing mother, a fantastic wife and such a special auntie for my siblings, cousins & I.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2006 and sadly lost her life only 8 months later in the November. Following chemotherapy and a mastectomy, Auntie Christine tragically developed necrotising fasciitis, otherwise known as the "flesh-eating disease", from either an infected scratch or bug bite (we're not quite sure which) and she sadly passed away in less than 24 hours. It was a horrific shock and she was taken from us far too soon.
I've always wanted to do something to raise as much money as I could to not only remember her and how incredible she was, but to also raise awareness for breast cancer as it touches so many lives. Our family will forever feel the weight of this disease, but over the years I've met so many people who have also lost mum's, auntie's, friends or have gone through the heavy times caring and supporting those close to them as they navigate the disease.
I am over the moon that Breast Cancer Now offered me a charity place in this year's London Marathon! Super scary and daunting as I have never ran more than a half marathon in my life however it's a true privilege to have this opportunity and I am going to do all I can (crawling may be a tactic!) to cross that finish line in support of Breast Cancer Now!
Any donation, no matter how small, is so very much appreciated! <3
Wish me luckkkkk! I'll keep you updated :)
