My Story
A year ago, I decided to get off the sofa and start looking after myself. I have 3 wonderful children and simply assumed that I would be there for them in years to come. I realised I needed to do something about it and I downloaded the Couch to 5km app - oh and to add some spice to this, I entered the London Marathon 2022 - and was accepted through the ballot. My legs didn't agree but it was the most amazing feeling and experience and I achieved my goal.
The one thing I took away from my first marathon was I wanted to get that buzz again but at the heart of the marathon is raising money for charity. For 2023, this wouldn't have been possible without the support and encouragement of such an amazing charity, Martin House Children's Hospice.
If one marathon wasn't enough for my 51 year old body, I am running both the Manchester Marathon on 16th April 2023 and London on 23rd April 2023 so this is a combined run for Martin House.
I feel very proud to have so much support and want to raise as much money as I can to support the incredible work they do. I am so lucky to have 3 children. I take it for granted that they do all the things - good and not so good - expected of healthy children without a care in the world. Now I want to do something and raise upwards of £1,500 to support children and their families who are living with life-limiting conditions and after the children have passed away.
This quote about Martin House resonates with me and I am sure it will with you and why your donation is invaluable: ' We cannot add days to their lives but we can add life to their days'.
Their mission is to help children and young people with a life-limiting condition, along with their families, to live well and fully, offering the best possible end-of-life care and support to the family in bereavement.
Their vision is that every child and young person has access to palliative care when and where they need it.
I cannot thank you enough for supporting Martin House; this is all the motivation I need on a cold winter morning when I need to get out and get some miles under my belt!
