My Story
My Story;
Not quite sure I have a ‘story’, not quite sure I knowingly entered the marathon either, but seeing as I received the ‘your ballot entry has been successful’ email, I guess we’ll go with it, so…
…if I’m going to drag my considerable bulk around 26.2 (don’t forget the .2) miles of London’s streets, the least I can do is try and do it for an amazing cause. In 2013 our lives were turned upside down when Cancer stole the life of the most amazing Mum, Wife, Sister, Aunt, and magnificent Granny my eldest son and two nieces could’ve hoped to have had, it also robbed my youngest two boys of the opportunity of experiencing the love and warmth she brought to this Earth - her memories live on in photos around the house and stories of growing up in such a happy household. Mum was only 66, we miss her every day.
I have close friends who are going through Cancer treatment right now, their strength and will to beat this truly awful disease is inspirational, they’re far too young to be dealing with this, they should be enjoying the best years of their lives with family and friends.
The stats are out there for all to see, and I know many of you will have been affected by Cancer at some point in your life, be that yourself or a loved one, and the impact and devastation can be felt for many years.
There’s hope; the good people at Cancer Research UK, like so many other Cancer charities, are undertaking pioneering life-saving work to fight this thing that hounds us, and your donations will help them continue to do so.
I know life right now is pretty tough, and cost of living is through the roof, if you can spare a few pounds to keep me inspired on the occasional ‘training’ run, but certainly on April 23rd, it would mean so much to me; if you feel that right now you’re not able to donate, that’s also cool, your messages of support will keep me going - all I ask is that if you do find yourself with a few pounds down the line, put them into a charity pot of your choice, in honour of what’s likely to be 26.2 miles of worthwhile agony.
So there you go, I do have a ‘story’ after all, who knew...
Thanks for popping by.
