My Story

I’m running the London marathon in April to support the work of REDRESS!

“But you love running all the time anyway so why should I sponsor you?!”

Fair point, hear me out…

The Cause

The case for REDRESS

REDRESS provide legal aid to survivors of torture.  They don’t stop there.  REDRESS then further the impact of these cases by using the decisions to advocate for lasting legal and policy change to ensure others do not experience similarly horrifying treatment.  You can read some extremely powerful stories here about the incredible work of REDRESS and the people they have helped.

If you are able, please give what you can to support this cause!

Innovation for All Foundation

REDRESS was a chosen charity by the Innovation for All Foundation in 2021.

The Innovation for All Foundation is a fantastic initiative set up by Kilburn & Strode to help the firm give back to great causes and have a positive impact on people’s lives.  The wonderful people I work with at Kilburn & Strode voted to further the work of REDRESS, recognising the vital importance of the work they do!

Magdulein Abaida

As an example of the difference REDRESS can make, meet Magdulein Abaida.

Magdulein campaigned for women’s rights in Libya.  As a result of her work she was targeted, abducted and subjected to ill-treatment by a militia group over a 5-day period.  Fearing for her life, upon her eventual release, Magdulein sought safety through asylum in the UK.

REDRESS has brought her case to the attention of the United Nations.

For a much better explanation of Magdulein’s story, please follow the link to watch a 3min film of Magdulein’s story in her own words.

A little bit about me

On a personal note, despite my love of running, I have some demons with this distance… (it took a frankly ludicrous number of oranges to get me across the line in Paris a few years ago).  I’ll be pushing hard to earn every single penny of your support for the work of this wonderful charity.

I may already enjoy running but if I can run on April 23rd knowing we have made a real difference in people’s lives, I’ll be super proud of our efforts – so let’s make it happen!

Thank you!

Thank you so much for reading my waffle – though hopefully you agree that the bits about REDRESS at the top were worth your time..!  Please reach out with all your marathon running tips and tricks, and please please donate whatever you can, if you can.

If you see me eating an orange, confiscate it immediately.
