My Story

Hello,

If you are reading this then I thank you for taking the time out of your day to be here. I'll make this quick...

On Sunday 23rd April, I will be running the London Marathon for a cause that is very close to my family.  The charity I will be raising money for is the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

JDRF-

JDRF funds research to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes. Working with government, academia and industry, JDRF helps to accelerate research in the UK and within healthcare policy to ensure that the outcomes of research are delivered to people with type 1 in the UK. And JDRF gives support and a voice to people with type 1 and their families.

Charlie Henderson-

Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease. Type 1 diabetics, their body's immune system, for reasons unknown, attacks and knocks out the insulin-producing cells hosted by the pancreas. And without insulin to process sugar intake, you die unless you inject insulin. Tragically, my cousin, Charlie Henderson, passed away at age 22 from Type 1 whilst backpacking through India.

The challenge-

Therefore, to support those who suffer from type 1 and their families, I have set myself the target of raising £2000 for JDRF and as a personal challenge, running a sub-4 marathon.

To achieve a sub-4,  I would need to sustain an average pace of around 10.5 kmph for 42.19km. To put that into perspective, I would need to run as fast as a Tiger Beetle for 4 hours?

So please do donate if you can, it is such a fantastic charity and any contribution would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Joe
