My Story

London will hopefully be my third marathon having run a virtual marathon in 2020 and then the Dublin Marathon in October 22. I'm keen to participate in this iconic event but those of you who have known me for a long time will testify that I'm not a natural distance runner. As a schoolgirl sprinting was my strength, I competed for Scotland (I even still hold the Scottish Schoolgirls u.17 200 metres championship best performance!) and I gained a few GB under 20 vests so 26.2miles is a VERY long way. There have been many times during training or in my marathons when I've really questioned my sanity but charities have suffered hugely with the pandemic and desperately need slightly deranged people like myself. The sense of achievement at the end forces me to keep running and I've got to say I think I'm more proud of my two marathon medals than any of the medals that I won as a teenager!

Running around Bath in the evenings it is sad to see just how many are struggling, home is often a doorway, food is a luxury, and yet Bath is an area known more for it's wealth than deprivation. This is the tip of an enormous iceberg, and with the current cost of living crisis sadly more and more people will struggle to feed either themselves or their family. It shouldn't be like this but it is. After failing (again!) to get a place in the London Marathon ballot, I have taken a charity place for the Genesis Trust who support the homeless and vulnerable in Bath. I would be really grateful if you would consider helping me raise sponsorship to support this charity, I know many of us are feeling the pinch but any donation will be gratefully received. It really doesn't matter how small, as every donation gets me nearer to my target, think of it as buying me a cup of coffee, I'd very much appreciate it 😃

The Genesis Trust exists to offer immediate practical help to people who are hungry, homeless and vulnerable, and provide long-term help and opportunities for them to rebuild their lives. We work individually with people on their journey from despair to hope, from crisis to independence.
