London Marathon 2023 - Keeping my promise to Emily!
My Story
Dear Friends ,
Please help me keep my promise to Emily to run the London Marathon this April 2023 and raise funds for Plan International UK (Plan) and Winston's Wish - a dedicated child bereavment charity.
All funds raised will be split evenlyly between these two causes.
I had hoped to the marathon while Emily was still with us but that was not possible.
My joining Plan in Dec 2020 coincided with Emily's diagnosis with Breast Cancer and the news we were expecting our 2nd baby. It has been an incredibly supportive employer throughout Emily's pregnancy, birth of our 2nd daughter, her treatment for cancer and since Emily died in July 2022.
Raising funds for Plan is a way to say thanks for its steadfast support and to give back to an incredible organisation that is advancing Children's Rights and Equality for Girls here in the U.K. and globally. Being a parent to two young daughters (see insert) remind me daily just how important this work is.
Winston's Wish supports children, young people and their families after the death of someone important to them. This is one of the most devasting and traumatic situations a child can face but with the right support at the right time children can lead full and flourishing lives.
Please spread the word widely and give as generously as you can to help me beat my £20,000 target
Thanking you for all your support. Please come to cheer me along on Sunday, April 23rd. I will need it!
Love, Liam X
P.S. See my video made with my good friend Joe last December. He recorded Emily's running of the 2015 London Marathon which she ran for her then employer Young Epilepsy.

Race day is nearly upon us! My training has gone almost to plan!
I have over 600 k.ms in the legs since I started with the Couch to 5 km. programme last October. I have adjusted my running in the past few weeks as I had to contend with a chest cold of sorts. I have focused only on the weekly long runs and completed a couple of runs around 30 kms over the past few weekends. So I am feeling good and looking forward to the marathon on Sunday April 23rd.
To date close to 280 people have supported my fundraising raising an incredible £15,600 so far.
The level of support has been phenomenal and spurs me on alongside thinking about Emily of course.
Looking forward to seeing many of you on race day.
Hi everyone, Good-bye Jan. The long evenings were tough but running in the cold air was refreshing. The sun has appeared in Wiltshire and I had a 5-mile run yesterday. I will be back out tomorrow for 8. The distances steadily build this month and I keep a focus on the next run, not run 48, the marathon itself! All this started in summer '22 with a promise to Em, to run the marathon. The real marathon is to keep on going when you have lost someone. The clearest goal is to raise our two beautiful daughters to grow into strong, kind spirited and independent women, just like their mum. I am grateful to have such wonderful family and friends to help in this. I have to try and keep going, I have what Em fought for. The running helps me look forward and raise as much funds as possible for two great charities, Plan UK and Winston's Wish. Join me, spread the word, ensure children have the support they need in times of crises. Let's keep the momentum growing. Love, Liam. X
