My Story

Hi I'm Linda, I am very pleased and excited to be running the London Marathon 2023 while fundraising for this very worthy charity.  The opportunity came about after being offered a place from MACS charity, through Styal Running Club, so myself and another Club member, Gilly, jumped at the chance and decided to go for it!  The training is well under way and so far so good - apart from a few blisters!

My aim is to raise as much money as I can for MACS and get around the London Marathon in one piece!  It will be my first full marathon, following on from competing in half marathons and triathlons over the last five years.  Having worked with children with special needs I know how hard it can be to raise funds for small charities, so any donations you can make to this one, however small, will be much appreciated.  Please have a read below to find out all about MACS and take a look at their website to discover their amazing stories!

MACS is a small national charity supporting children born without eyes or with underdeveloped eyes.

Every year in the UK, 90 children will be born with no eyes (Anophthalmia), small eyes (Microphthalmia), or a cleft in the eye (Coloboma). Many children will have additional needs or other health challenges. Receiving the diagnosis may be an isolating experience for parents; they may feel hopeless and alone.

MACS now helps over 3000 people from 1000 families across the UK, supporting them at every stage of their journey by providing peer support, practical help and opportunities to take part in life-changing activity trips.

Thanks for reading and for your donations, it is gratefully received.  Now on with the training and good luck to everyone else fundraising through the London Marathon 2023!!
