My Story

SMA UK have been a charity I have been aware of ever since I met my best mate (and soon to be best man), Karl, back in 2008 when we started high school together. Karl, who has lived with SMA since he was 18 months old, has been a huge inspiration to me over the years we have known each other. Watching him complete school with flying colours, spend 3 years away in Scotland at university (a huge step for both him and his family, with him moving away from home), to now living in his own house, it has been an honour to watch him grow into the man he has become today. He has been a great friend to me over the years and to have the opportunity to both raise money for this wonderful charity and to represent them in the world’s most famous race would be the perfect way for me to repay both him and his family who have done so much for me over the years I have known them.

Over the past few years, I have seen both the highs and the lows of Karl’s journey living with SMA, and I know the difficulties faced by both the individuals and their families who live with this condition. To be able to assist SMA UK by raising money which could be put towards not only providing the care and support to individuals who need it, but to also continue the great work I know has been happening in terms of drug research over recent years would be the perfect motivation for me to embark on what will for sure be both a tough physical and mental journey running the marathon. If I am going to put myself on that journey, I want to make sure it is for a cause close to my heart, which this for sure is.
