My Story
Hi all,
My friend unfortunately had to drop out from running the London Marathon for Emmaus and in a rather drunken state, I decided to take their place just three weeks before the start date (which I’m sure was one of my better ideas to date!). So…. with little to no training, unwavering confidence and an inability to turn down a challenge (after a couple) - it’s GO time this Sunday!
I have set myself the somewhat lofty goal of achieving anything under 3:59:59 which could turn into 5/6 hours very easily. But with my mum having run the Flora London Marathon back in 1999 when I was just 15 months old in 4hrs 12mins, we all know where my real focus will really be on Sunday. So, whilst army-crawling around the streets of London and also praying for there to be no sun or I will be sweating out kids’ spf 50 all day, I will be giving it my best shot at getting around the great event.
Any type of support would be greatly appreciated, down from a few expletives on the side of the road on Sunday but even more importantly supporting the amazing charity that is Emmaus. Emmaus support over 850 people who have experienced homelessness in the UK and are hoping to provide a home for over 1,100 people effected by 2025. They not only provide a home for as long as people need but also provide support and training within their social enterprises, with one being located just round the corner from Olney in Carlton Village. This particular site has 42 bedrooms and all companions (residents) work full-time in either the Home Store, Boutique, Bric a Brac shop or the Bistro and all provide a commercial setting where key skills can be learned in a friendly atmosphere. So you can see what a difference Emmaus makes in many lives and any support would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers Oli!
