My Story
Thank you for your consideration in donating to JDRF!
My longest standing connection to JDRF is through my wife and our close family friends, where the father and two sons have type one diabetes (T1D). Over the last 8 years of knowing this family I have gotten the chance to learn about T1D and JDRF on a personal level. To me, JDRF is an organization worth supporting for two different reasons:
- Mission. JDRF is an organization that is very clear in its mission - to bring an end to T1D. I find this singular focus easy to get behind because I know exactly what my support, and the support of those that I encourage, is going towards.
- Momentum. JDRF is an organization that is able to show the benefits of its labor through the massive advancements that have been made in quality of life for those living with T1D. I remember vividly a conversation I had with the father of our family friends a year ago where he explained to me the massive improvements that have happened in recent years in insulin pump technology and less evasive monitoring systems. These advancements have greatly increased his ability to live a "normal" life. Being able to see the impact of T1D research and advocacy efforts, greatly aided by JDRF, on someone's life really brought home the importance of JDRF's mission to me. Since that conversation, there have been additional advancements with clinical trials launching. There is real momentum here!
The more recent connection I have to JDRF is through a cousin who, at the age of 16, had her life turned upside down with a T1D diagnosis. Watching her and her family adapt to this new reality of learning to cope with this disease has given me new perspective of how T1D can disrupt any life with no notice.
Thank you again for supporting JDRF and for supporting me in my 2023 London Marathon journey!
