My Story

On April 23, 2023 on St George’s day, I’ll be taking on the London Marathon and running 26.2 miles.

I will be raising funds for the amazing ENT unit at St Georges Hospital London. This is to show how much my family and I appreciate the outstanding care my dad received which ultimately lead to saving my dad’s life.

My dad was diagnosed with stage four cancer (carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma) on the left side of his neck. The tumour ran through the main nerve which also had to be removed in major surgery, this caused a lot of issues for him, Including not being able to close one eye, teeth being removed and not having the use of one side of his face.

After the outstanding work by Mr Offo the ENT surgeon and Mr Vesley, the plastic surgeon. They successfully removed the cancer in a 20 hour operation, with a swift second 5 hour operation by Mr Vesely to repair one eye. This second operation enabled my dad to once again be able to open and close his eye and lifted one side of his face. This has made every day life more comfortable for him.

The care my dad received by the heroic doctors was outstanding, from the very beginning all the way to the anticipated news of the ALL CLEAR! I witnessed all this myself as I drove him to and from appointments throughout this horrible time.

Not once did my dad feel like just another patient. He felt cared for, respected and attended to. I myself so how busy the unit was and I am amazed by their work.

In other words, my dad went through absolute hell over a long period of time. His incredibly strong mind and determination to not let this horrible disease beat him or even get him down will always stick with me.

By taking on this huge and difficult challenge. I would like to raise as much funds as possible, which will go fully to the ENT unit at St George’s Hospital. As a big thank you to Mr Offo and Mr Vesley and their amazing teams!

Thanks to them. My dad was able to attend my wedding last year and one day will be able to meet his future grandchildren. For this I will always be grateful to St George’s.
