My Story
I am running the London Marathon this year for PBC Foundation as it is a charity close to our hearts as my mother in law (Linda) was diagnosed with Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC), an autoimmune condition, in 1995.
PBC causes the body’s immune system to turn on itself and start attacking the small bile ducts attached to the liver.
In 2003 she had a liver transplant at King’s and has always since supported PBC Foundations. These are her words below.
'The PBC Foundation has supported me throughout my transplant journey with great advice for both my physical and mental wellbeing, for which I am extremely grateful. They have been there for me in every way for over 25 years. I have watched it grow from a couple of hundred members to hundreds of thousands worldwide and it does an awesome job supporting everyone, whatever their needs in a very personal way.
They are great advocates for our rights and in research for this debilitating disease. Due their efforts diagnosis has improved and new medication introduced and so many feel less isolated and better informed. I cannot speak highly enough of their work.'
