My Story

On April 23rd 2023, I will be attempting to run The London Marathon.

It goes without saying that this will be a HUGE challenge for me. Those that know me know that I enjoy running - but this will be a far cry from my usual short, slow plod up and down the promenade.

Race day will see me run 26.2 miles, but the training will be taking over my life for the next four months as I clock up over 400 miles in the cold, dark and wet.

I'm not subjecting myself to a winter of misery just for the fun of it. I'm doing it to raise money for the amazing charity that I work for - NHS Charities Together, a national network of NHS Charities across the UK helping the NHS to go further.

I dont have one big story about how the NHS has impacted me, rather it has been there as a consistent and reassuring presense throughout my life -  from bringing my siblings and nieces into the world safely, to caring for my Grandad with compassion and kindness in his final few weeks. More recently, the NHS has been there when I've needed support with my mental health, as they have been for millions of others. Taking on this challenge is the perfect way for me to show my love and gratitude for everything they do.

I'm lucky to work with many NHS charities across the UK as part of my job at NHS Charities Together, and the work they do to support NHS staff and patients is extarordinary. From counselling services for exhausted staff, to funding research into long-term health conditions - NHS charities provide the extra support thats needed to make our healthcare system the very best it can be.

So, please do give what you can. No amount too small (or too big!). Every penny will help to keep me motivated on those long sunday morning runs...

Thank you
