My Story

Hi there!

I’m running the London Marathon 2023, raising money for the Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) - the UK's leading HIV and sexual health charity.

I would love it if you could spare a few quid in sponsorship to help me reach my goal and you can follow my training journey on Instagram (@hey_seantay).

Thank you!

Why I'm running for #TeamTerry

THT is a charity close to my heart as my partner Nathaniel lives with HIV whilst I remain HIV-. This is possible thanks to medical advances like U=U and PrEP, advocated for by organisations like THT.

Don’t know what U=U and PrEP are? OK, here comes the science bit...

Undetectable = Untransmittable

Nathaniel lives (no, thrives) with HIV and I am HIV- so we are in a ‘serodiscordant relationship’ - a partnership with one HIV+ and one HIV- person.

HIV medication is now so effective that Nathaniel’s viral load (the amount of virus in his blood) is so low that it cannot be detected via tests. This means that he cannot pass it on to me during unprotected sex.

Undetectable = Untransmittable or U = U.

PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis)

PrEP is HIV medication taken by HIV- people to help prevent them getting HIV. It is highly effective at stopping HIV transmission. Studies have shown PrEP is 86% effective at stopping transmission in gay and bisexual men and 75% effective in heterosexual women. Some studies put these figures even higher.

I joined the NHS PrEP trial in 2017. Thanks to tireless campaigning by organisations like THT, PrEP is now available for free to everyone across the UK. Many people think that it’s up to people with HIV to protect others, but PrEP allows everyone to share this responsibility.

By taking PrEP, Nathaniel and I share the responsibility of preventing HIV transmission equally.

Not everyone needs to take PrEP (speak to your doctor if you think you are at risk) but everyone who is sexually active should be testing regularly for all STIs.

Education, Education, Education

Ending HIV transmission is everyone’s responsibility.

U=U and PrEP have revolutionised the lives of so many people affected by HIV, but knowledge of, and access to PrEP is still lacking in many communities.

I am running to raise money to help THT continue their vital work educating everyone on HIV prevention and advocating for better access to PrEP.

Donate to help THT spread the important U=U and PrEP messages and help end HIV for good.
