My Story

On 22nd December 2021, I went home and delivered the news to my family that I have been diagnosed with a brain tumour.

After months of GP and hospital appointments due to my loss of hearing in my right ear, I was finally booked in for an MRI scan. A few days later, I received the news that I had an Acoustic Neuroma brain tumour which was 4cm in size and would require urgent surgery.

In March 22, I had surgery which has successfully removed most of the tumour and I will now have annual MRI scans to ensure the remaining doesn’t grow. If it does, I will have radiotherapy to remove the growing tumour.

Fortunately, my tumour has been tested and is benign (not cancerous). I now live with several side effects that will be with me for life, these are a small reminder of the trauma brain tumours can have on anyone at any age.

Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40, they strike so fast and reduce life expectancy by an average of 27 years.

I will be doing my bit to help raise awareness of brain tumours and funding for The Brain Tumour Charity by running the London Marathon (I know another marathon fundraising page!).

Thank you to those closest to me, the incredible surgeons (Mr Shenouda, Mr Thomas, Mr Hempenstall) who all operated on me and Mr Collings-Wells who are all based at Southampton General Hospital Neurological Department - I couldn’t be more grateful to you all.
