My Story

As a life-long horse lover and a more recent running enthusiast, I thought I would try and do something constructive with my silly hobby.

I decided to run the 2023 London Marathon to raise funds for the Brooke Hospital for working animals.

For 600 million people in some of the poorest places in the world, 100 million of these animals are the backbone of communities and their best means of making a living. Without healthy working horses, donkeys and mules, they wouldn’t be able to put food on their tables, send their children to school or build better futures for themselves and their families.

These animals endure some of the harshest conditions, toiling under appalling loads without proper veterinary care, shelter, food or water.  Often subjected to terrible treatment either through cruelty or ignorance, their lives are painful, exhausting and often short.

The Brooke aims to alleviate their suffering directly by providing access to water, shelter, veterinary and farriery care.

They also provide training to the people who rely on these animals, empowering them to provide proper care for the donkeys, horses and mules in their communities.  This also provides people with a trade and employment, helping to lift them out of poverty.

I really hope you will help me reach my target, running 26.2 miles is nothing compared with what these animals go through every day and I will be thinking of them when I want to have a sit down at mile 18!
