My Story

Some of you will know I had a subarachnoid brain haemorrhage on December 10th 2019, whilst out running.

This resulted in 2 ambulance journies, the second from West-Mid Hospital to Charing Cross/Imperial's neurology unit where I spent 2 1/2 days in ICU and a further 6 1/2 days in recovery. In short, I was exceptionally lucky, as the type of bleed I encoutered was one of the more benign you can have. However, it was still a very serious and a nervous time for all involved. Family and friends delivered the most enormous amount of support and the medical team (whom I would not be here without) was nothing other than first class throughout! I thank you all!

I was given the all clear 3 months later (12 days before lockdown)! Gracefully, I have had very little impact on my day to day existence, barring some belated PTSD as one has come to terms with the enormity of it all. Fortunately, I was lucky in part, being quite fit at the time which I've been able to maintain, participating in a duathlon and a half marathon.

To be given the opportunity to run on behalf of Brain Research UK is a huge honour and couldn't have come at a better moment. I've wanted to give something back for a while and now have my opportunity to raise as much money as possible for a very worthy cause, one which you will understand is close to my heart.

This is the first time I am running for a Charity. I very much hope each of you reading this will be in a position to donate, whether large or small, in my quest of raising money to support this outstanding charity will be hugely appreciated.

The training has commenced (see Strava feed below) and the pressure is on!
