My Story

Thank you for getting this far!

I have chosen Teenage Cancer Trust due to the support the charity has provided to people close to me.

In 2020 my sister in-law, Sophie, was diagnosed with advanced Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the age of 24. Due to the amazing healthcare received she has now been 2.5 years all clear and is expecting her first child in May.

My cousin Emma, extremely sadly passed away at the start of 2021 at the age of 30 having battled cancer from the age of 13 when she was originally diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The charity made a huge difference to her life as a teenager growing up with the disease and introducing her to other people her own age, being able to share experiences.

Emma suffered various types of cancer over the next 17 years which involved innumerable hospital visits and stays, as well as bone marrow and stem cell transplants donated by her brother, James. Throughout Emma's early 20's she went to university and had a successful career as a journalist, during which time she started a page with various articles to help cancer sufferers find the financial supprt they need so badly. She married her wonderful Matt, made a home and remained very close to her family. As a family we miss her hugely and are so grateful to the various charities that made her life easier.

Both Emma and Sophie were both fortunate enough to be supported by the Teenage Cancer Trust which made very difficult and scary times far more comfortable for them.
